Band coaches are responsible for anything that happens within the rehearsal studios during Rehearsal time (including Rehearsal weekend rehearsals). Their ultimate goals are to ensure rehearsal time is used as efficiently as possible (read high quality, little waste), and that the final performance of the Songs they coach live up to and beyond the wishes and imagination of the band members. This includes the following responsibilities:

Band coaches are assigned to Songs in the set list, and, depending on scheduling conflicts and other factors, individual rehearsal slots of songs they aren’t assigned to.

Being a band coach can be taxing during rehearsals. You’ll be scheduled to be in a studio as a band coach for roughly the available rehearsal time (take into account potential double studios) divided by the amount of band coaches (often 3). This is on top of the songs you’re scheduled to play on yourself. During any rehearsal, this can be more or less, depending on the schedule.

Under some conditions, like Rehearsal weekend, other people than the usual band coaches might coach bands. This starts with other committee members, and might expand to ex-committee band coaches.
