During the auditions, the Committee determines which Auditionees are accepted as Musicians within one or multiple Disciplines.

There are multiple reasons for there being an audition process to become a Musician.

• Limited capacity within an Edition: There’s only so many people one can organize rehearsals for and give stage time to during The show (the BMN).
• Guaranteed minimum competence within the BMN: See selection consideration.

After the sign-up deadline, the committee will select each Auditionee per Discipline. This means that an auditionee who auditioned for both guitar and drums may be accepted on drums only.

🤔 Selection considerations

After an Audition, the Committee may choose to accept or reject an Auditionee within a given Discipline based on considerations like the following:

• An Edition’s capacity forMusicians as set up by its Committee. See justification.
• Ability to meet the minimum competence requirement. The Committee must have confidence in an Auditionee’s ability to perform at The show (the BMN). This doesn’t mean every Musician must be ready to play the show at the start of the rehearsal period, but it does mean every musician must show the potential to be able to do so by the end of the rehearsal period.
• Complementarity within the Musician pool. This can be over axes like experience (combining both novice and more experienced musicians) and Discipline (ensuring a workable balance between different disciplines). Based on this, under certain circumstances, more experienced musicians may be rejected in favor of less experienced musicians with more growth potential.
• Potential of an Auditionee to grow within and through the BMN. This may, for example, implicate that an auditionee with less band experience is chosen at the expense of a more experienced musician (when the complementarity consideration allows for it).
• Musical compatibility with others within the Musician pool and the setup of The show (the BMN). For example, a bedroom producer can be very musical, but fitting them into bands and a live show may be difficult (though ideas are always welcome).

These considerations are chosen align the purpose of the auditions with both their direct justification, as well as with core values of The BMN (the concept).
