The mentor is primarily responsible for making sure a first-year committee member without any experience with The BMN (the concept) has the knowledge and tools to properly function within the Committee. This both includes social belonging/involvement and empowering them to be able to properly perform their tasks through supplying information about the workings of the organization. The goal is to let the new committee member feel like they know what they’re doing and what they can expect, and that they are an involved member of the committee. To the first-year committee member, the mentor is the person they can contact whenever they need help with their tasks, getting up to speed, or anything else.

Since the mentor is usually one of the more experienced committee members, other committee members and musicians can also come to the tutor for advice and knowledge.
