Your Audition will consist of multiple parts. First, you’ll play one 4 minute song of your choosing, and second you will have a 3-5 minute jam with the committee.

Your instrument counts as a band-instrument if it’s one of the following:

During your audition, if your instrument and your physical condition permit it, you will be standing. This means if you’re not auditioning for drums, you will be standing. This is because you will also be standing while playing at the final show. If this forms an issue for you, please contact us beforehand.

🎼 Song of your choosing

You start with playing a song of your choosing. Try to pick a song that really showcases your skills! We’d rather have you play a very challenging song with maybe a few tiny mistakes, than a very easy song with no mistakes. This makes it possible for us to properly assess your proficiency, instead of having to guess (not necessarily in your favor).

Due to a limited timeframe, we ask you to keep the length of your song under 4 minutes in duration. You will be playing to a backing track. We strongly recommend that you turn in a track which doesn’t include the instrument you will be playing (basically a karaoke track for your instrument). If the song you want to audition with is longer than 4 minutes, we ask you to either 1) cut the backing track to the right length and send that to us, or to 2) provide us with time stamps for where you want to start/end.

Please send your backing track to @Luka. If you need help with finding a suiting backing track, you can contact us through @Luka as well ([email protected]).

Before you start playing your song, we will be conducting a quick sound-check to make sure you can properly hear yourself and your backing track.

During your performance of these songs, please act as if you are performing it on a stage. We will not only be looking at your skill-level, but also at your performance and confidence. That being said, it is of course okay (and completely normal) to be nervous, but do try to have fun too!

🎶 Jam

After you finish playing your song, you’ll perform a 3-5 minute jam with (part of) the committee.

The purpose of the jam is to get an insight into your improvisation skills and musicality, and see how well you can play with others in a band setting. Try to be dynamic during the jam and communicate with your fellow musicians. You can vary between taking the lead and playing some solos, and you can also try to give the other musicians some space to take said lead.

For the jam, you can pick any chord progression you’d like. Some suggestions are listed below. Please e-mail which chord progression you want to play (as well as your backing track) to @Luka ([email protected]).
